Anders Jones is an artist, designer, and photographer based in New York City. He received a BA in Textile Surface Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology and an MFA in Photography and Video Related Media from the School of Visual Arts. Anders has maintained a practice as a textile designer for over a decade in addition to his work as a fine art photographer. His work has been published in BLACK: A Celebration of Culture by Deborah Willis and on PDN.com. His artwork, including recent forays into sculpture, has been featured in exhibitions at RE:Art, White Box, Welancora Gallery, Five Myles Gallery, HEREart, PULSE Miami Beach, and Spring Break Art Show.
My artwork has evolved over time into a multidisciplinary practice that incorporates formal training in textile arts (BFA) and photography and video (MFA). Central to the work is material explorations and the integration of photography and design. I often use a combination of found objects, discarded ephemera and photo/light-based equipment and processes to create two or three-dimensional objects. The works often speak in allegorical terms of the experience of navigating structural obstacles faced by people of color, their latent psychological and emotional residue, and the unsettling truths we all must confront.
